Progressive Lenses

What is a progressive lens?

Progressive lenses, also known as multifocal lenses, and sometimes referred to as "no-line bifocal lenses". This kind of lens allows users to have 3 corrective powers in one lens, without the hard lines of traditional bifocals or trifocals. A no-line multifocal eyeglass lens that makes it look exactly the same as a single vision lens. In other words, this lens will help you clearly see things at all distances, but without the old-fashioned lines of traditional bifocals.

Multi-focal glasses solve the trouble that middle-aged and elderly people need different luminosity to see objects at different distances and need to change glasses frequently. A pair of glasses can see far, computer distance, and close. The demand for progressive lenses increases with age. When humans reach the age of 40+, it's difficult for many people to concentrate fully on nearby objects. This is the so-called presbyopia. In order to make up for this regret and inconvenience, some people look far away with myopia glasses and look near by wearing reading glasses.

The upper part of the progressive lens helps you see far away.
The lower part provides the power you need at close range.
The middle part helps you see objects clearly in the middle distance.
These lenses provide a gradual transition of intensity from top to bottom.

What kind of frames are suitable for multifocal glasses?

1. The frame must be stable and not loose. Note that when choosing frames, do not choose rimless frame. Because the rimless frame has the phenomenon that the screws are easy to loosen, the focus is misaligned and the effect is reduced. The most ideal frame is full frame, half frame can also be equipped.

2. Choose S-shaped nose pads. Because the S-shaped nose pads are easy to adjust, in short, it can also better adjust the pupil height and eye distance. U-shaped and L-shaped nose pads are not suitable.

3. The curvature of the selected frame should not be too large. It is recommended to pay attention to the curvature of the frame not too large when choosing the frame used for wearing multifocal spectacle lenses, so as not to cause discomfort or even dizziness when wearing. Try to choose a style with a relatively straight frame.

4. The significance of selecting the single pile head is also that it can be adjusted. When the effect of looking close is not good, you can adjust the pile head to change the forward inclination angle, which may improve the effect of looking close. The adjustability of thick pile head and double pile head will be greatly reduced.

5. The shape cannot be selected as the pilot style (aviator), because the pilot style has less close-use area and is not suitable for use with progressive lenses.

6. Note: The height of the frame cannot be too small, and it is not recommended to be too large.

What are the advantages of progressive lenses?

1. All you need is a pair of glasses

Progressive lenses have the functions of single vision lenses and reading glasses, so you only need a pair of glasses on hand. Wearing progressive lenses allows you to see clearly at different distances. It saves the trouble of wearing two pairs of glasses when going out and avoids the awkward atmosphere of changing glasses when communicating.

2. No unsightly bifocal lines

Progressive lenses have the advantages of multifocal lenses, but there is no multifocal line. And because the lens strength of a progressive lens changes gradually, you don't have to deal with any sudden changes in sharpness, which is common in multifocal lines.

3. Modern, youthful appearance

Bifocal and trifocal glasses are sometimes related to old age. So wearing glasses with bifocal lines may make you feel uncomfortable. Since there are no visible lines, progressive lenses may make you feel more comfortable.

What are the disadvantages of progressive lenses?

Although progressive lenses can provide "wireless bars" of visual clarity, it is important to understand the shortcomings of these lenses.

1. You have to learn how to see through the lens

Bifocal and trifocal lenses have a visible line, so it is easier to determine where to look for clear vision. Since progressive lenses have no lines, there will be a learning process, and it may take one to two weeks to learn the correct way of lens perspective. Symptoms such as dizziness may appear in the middle.

2. Temporary distortion of vision

The lower part of the progressive lens is enlarged because it is designed for reading. Therefore, if you look down while walking down the road or upstairs, your feet may appear larger and it is difficult to measure your steps. This may cause trips or trips.
You need to train your eyes to see through the far part of the progressive lens instead of the reading part to avoid problems when walking.
When your eyes move left and right, progressive lenses can also cause peripheral distortion. As your eyes adjust to the lenses, these visual effects become less noticeable.

3. More expensive than single vision lens and bifocal lens

Remember the cost difference between progressive lenses, single vision lenses, and bifocal lenses. Progressive lenses are more expensive because you basically combine three pairs of glasses into one. But considering the convenience and simplicity of progressive lenses, some people think the extra cost is worth it.

How to judge whether progressive lenses are suitable for you?

Although progressive lenses allow you to clearly see the distance between near and far. But these lenses are not the right choice for everyone. There will be a learning curve, maybe some people are never adapt to these lenses. But there are also people who are naturally accustomed to multi-focus and don't need to try to get used to it. (Just tell the truth)
The only way to know if a progressive lens is right for you is to try it. If the problem persists, bifocal lenses(wired in the middle of the lens)may be more suitable for you. To help your eyes adapt, please wear as many progressive lenses as possible at the beginning. In addition, develop the habit of turning your head to look at objects instead of moving your eyes left and right. Staring at the side of the glasses will distort your vision. Note that when you reading, please move your eyes instead of your head.
ANRRI EYEWEAR is dedicated to glasses with various functions. If you choose us, we will live up to expectations. Glasses technology has been continuously improving. Therefore, if you cannot wear progressive lenses today, you may be able to wear them in the future.
