3 Easy Ways to Clean Blue Light Glasses

High-quality blue light glasses  are a worthwhile investment that deserves proper care to ensure their longevity. They shield your eyes from harmful blue light rays, guarding against digital eye strain, which can manifest as headaches,  blurred vision, dry and itchy eyes, and even disrupt your sleep cycle.

By maintaining your blue light glasses diligently, you are taking proactive measures to safeguard your ocular health and overall well-being.

You might be tempted to think, “I’m sure I know how to clean my glasses! I simply use my shirt or any handy cloth I find at home. It’s a straightforward task.” However, while these are common practices for cleaning glasses, regardless of their type, they often leave behind bothersome smudges and can even make them appear dirtier than before. Fortunately, there are superior methods to clean your blue light glasses and significantly reduce the risk of scratching their lenses.

Warm Water and Dish Soap

Using warm water and dish soap is the most efficient and safest approach to cleaning dirt or smudges from your blue light-blocking glasses. Remember, using water that is too cold or too hot could cause permanent damage to your frames and lenses, so it's crucial to stick to warm or lukewarm water.

Begin by gently rinsing your glasses with warm water. Then, apply a small amount of dish soap to each lens and carefully rub them in a circular motion with your fingers, creating a good amount of foam. Ensure to cover the entire frame with the soap as well.

To reach all the tight spaces, use a cotton swab or a toothbrush with soft bristles (avoid hard bristles!). If you opt for the soft-bristled toothbrush, be mindful to minimize contact with the lenses.

Once you have finished washing your blue light glasses with soap, thoroughly rinse off all the soap residue and ensure your lenses are clear. If not, repeat the cleaning process.

If, after rinsing, you notice any tiny pieces of debris still lodged in the crevices, use a toothpick to gently and meticulously remove them.

Finally, to dry and buff your glasses, gently wipe both lenses, nose pads, and the entire frame with a microfiber cloth.

Eyeglass Cleaner

Eyeglass cleaners are liquid solutions specifically designed for cleaning glasses. They are affordable and widely available in pharmacies, grocery stores, eyewear retailers, and online shops, making them an excellent cleaning option, especially when you're on the go, running errands, attending events, or meeting friends at restaurants.

If you have anti-reflective (AR) blue light glasses, it's crucial to ensure that the cleaner you use is compatible with the AR coating. Always check the label to avoid using a cleaner that could potentially damage your lenses, which is the last thing you want!

To use the eyeglass cleaner, simply spray it evenly over your glasses, ensuring that every part of the lens and frame is coated. Then, using a microfiber cloth, gently rub it in a circular motion across your blue light glasses to remove the cleaning solution and ensure they are completely dry.

Maintaining a Blue Light Glasses Care Routine

Maintaining a daily care routine for your blue light glasses is essential to keeping them clean, preventing scratches, and ensuring their optimal functionality for as long as possible. It’s recommended to inspect them regularly, whether it’s in the morning when you wake up or in the evening before bed. If they become dirty during the day, it’s crucial to clean them promptly.

Regular cleaning is not the only step; using a protective glasses case is also vital for prolonging the lifespan of your blue light glasses. Avoid placing them on soft surfaces such as your bed, bathroom counter, or desk as this could lead to accidental scratches or even breakage.

Remember to clean the tools you use for cleaning your glasses as well. Microfiber cloths, for instance, collect dirt, grease, and debris that can remain on your glasses. Depending on the type of microfiber cloth (always check the label), you can wash them either by hand or in the washing machine.

Cleaning your blue light glasses may appear straightforward, but there are numerous considerations involved. Nevertheless, by adhering to the steps outlined above, you can ensure that your glasses remain sparkling clean, free of scratches, and last for a considerable period.
